Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the previous studies on the factor structures of the Korean version CES-D scale (The Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale) and to identify the best factor structure model that fits well to Korean sample using confirmatory factor analysis. In order to accomplish the purpose of the present study, data were collected from 399 students who were enrolled in a college and universities located in Daegu metropolitan area. Based on the sample data, the six competing factor structure models were statistically evaluated by several model fit indices. The results found that the factor structure models reported by previous domestic studies did not fit well to the present sample data and several model fit indices indicated that the factor structure reported by Radloff(1977), an original author of the CES-D scale, showed the best overall fit to the present data. Based on the results, therefore, the factor structure by the Radloff¡¯s study was chosen as a final model. The findings implied that the factor structure suggested by the original author of the CES-D scale may possibly be applied to Korean population. Several other important implications of the present study were also discussed.
